BOTOX®, Dysport® and other types of botulinum toxin injections are some of the most popular anti-aging treatments in Sarasota, providing smooth, natural-looking results. However, as the saying goes, all good things must come to and end – or at least temporarily. As such, BOTOX results don’t last forever and will need to be retouched throughout the year to maintain those same beautiful results.
Here, our team of master APRNs and experienced BOTOX injectors answers some of the most common questions about how long BOTOX lasts and how often you might need touch-ups.
How Long Does BOTOX Last?
In general, BOTOX lasts 3 to 4 months before a touch-up is needed. However, this number will vary from person to person and could be longer or shorter. BOTOX may also have cumulative effects, meaning if you have never had BOTOX before, it may last slightly less time than it would after multiple treatments.
Other factors that can affect how long BOTOX might last for you include:
- Your metabolism. People with faster metabolisms may break down the product quicker than those with slower metabolisms.
- Treatment area. Some areas, like the forehead, tend to metabolize BOTOX faster than others.
- Dosage. Higher doses of BOTOX may last longer than smaller doses. Our skilled injectors will recommend the best dosage for your specific goals.
- Lifestyle factors. Sun exposure, smoking, stress, skincare habits and other lifestyle factors can also play a role in how long your BOTOX results may last.
Does Dysport Last Longer Than BOTOX?
We offer both BOTOX and Dysport at Sarasota Facial Aesthetics, and a common question we get is, “Does Dysport last longer than BOTOX?” Generally speaking, no, Dysport and BOTOX both last about the same 3 to 4 months. However, because Dysport has a slightly thinner consistency and typically spreads to larger areas faster than BOTOX, its results may show up a bit sooner.
How to Make BOTOX Last Longer
Keep in mind that there isn’t a way to make BOTOX or Dysport last significantly longer, but there are some things you can do to get the most out of your treatment:
- Don’t rub or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours after your appointment.
- Avoid strenuous activities for the first day or so after treatment.
- Keep your face shaded from the sun with wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses and wear daily SPF.
- Follow a consistent anti-aging skincare routine.
- Don’t smoke.
Signs It’s Time for a Touch-Up
The effects of BOTOX and Dysport will very gradually fade away, so you won’t see an abrupt change to your appearance overnight. However, you may begin to notice that dynamic lines like laugh lines or crow’s feet are showing up again when making facial expressions, and static lines and wrinkles may begin to come back. You might also feel the facial muscles in treated areas start to contract more freely.
