Facial Fillers
When lines, wrinkles, hollows and creases start to show up, many women and men opt for nonsurgical anti-aging solutions like facial fillers to help them look and feel more youthful and energized. There are several types of injectable fillers, and the best one for you will depend on your specific needs and goals.
At our office in Sarasota, Juvederm, Restylane and Sculptra are some of the most popular injectables we offer. Find out more and see how these dermal fillers can benefit you!
What Are Facial Fillers?
Facial fillers are injectable skin rejuvenation treatments that temporarily smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, give better definition to the jawline, and restore a fuller appearance to the cheeks, lips and temples. While hyaluronic acid fillers remain some of the most popular choices, other types of fillers may be more suitable, depending on your specific cosmetic concerns and goals.
Fillers at Sarasota Facial Aesthetics
At Sarasota Facial Aesthetics, we are pleased to offer these popular facial filler options:
- Juvéderm® – The Juvéderm family of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, adds volume and helps the skin retain moisture and softness. Each product in the Juvéderm family of fillers, including Vollure XC, Voluma XC, Volbella XC, Ultra and Ultra Plus XC, is made from a modified form of HA. Juvéderm fillers are best used to smooth away the look of lines and wrinkles and add volume to the face and lips.
- SKINVIVE by Juvéderm® – This microdroplet injectable improves skin smoothness in the cheeks, helping to give you a refreshed, glowing look. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid and contains lidocaine to improve comfort during injections. Our patients can see results lasting up to 6 months with this easy, 15-minute treatment!
- Restylane® – The Restylane family of fillers is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Restylane, Restylane-L, Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are intended to treat facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Restylane Countour is focused on increasing volume. Restylane Kysse is a formulation especially for the lips. Restylane and Restylane-L can also be used for lip enhancement.
- Sculptra® – Consisting of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material that stimulates collagen production within your skin, Sculptra injections can last as long as two years. Sculptra is commonly used to treat deep lines, wrinkles and creases, as well as facial volume loss. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra cannot be dissolved before its effects gradually fade away on their own.

Areas of Treatment
While fillers can be used to smooth the look of lines and wrinkles in a variety of areas, they are most commonly used near the mid- and lower-face regions, such as frown lines, nasolabial folds and thinning cheeks and lips. They can also be used to add volume to hollowed out temples and even to create a more defined jawline.
For a more contoured chin, we can use Juvéderm Voluma to sculpt and accent this area, giving you a more balanced facial appearance, especially when combined with injectable treatments higher up on the face. Chin augmentation with injectables is an increasingly popular treatment.
Am I a Candidate?
Practically anyone who is in good overall health and is looking to turn back the hands of time on their appearance could be a good candidate for facial fillers. We treat both women and men with injectables, and our injectors have experience tailoring treatments to best meet your needs. We will review your health history and explain any possible side effects to watch for prior to your treatment.
Know that hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if you are unhappy with your results for any reason, while non-HA fillers like Sculptra cannot. Thus, if you have never had fillers before, HA fillers can be an excellent choice to start.
How Fillers Work
Hyaluronic acid fillers work by temporarily plumping the skin, which smooths lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a brighter and more youthful look and feel. Because HA molecules are able to retain 1,000 times their weight in water, hyaluronic acid fillers are also the best choice for adding volume to the face and lips.
Other types of fillers work in slightly different ways. Sculptra, which contains a material called poly-L-lactic acid, works by stimulating your skin’s natural collagen production. This process gradually achieves a smoother and more youthful appearance as collagen increases. This quality also allows Sculptra results to last longer than most other fillers — sometimes lasting over two years.
If you are concerned about the appearance of wrinkles near your eyes, forehead or brow, a neuromodulator like BOTOX or Dysport could be right for you. Often, fillers and neuromodulators are combined to achieve the desired result.

Results
You may notice results shortly after getting facial fillers, although mild swelling, bruising and redness are common side effects directly after your appointment, which can hide your final result. It can take up to two weeks for your final outcome to develop, so we recommend scheduling your appointment at least this far in advance of an important event.
Facial fillers generally last anywhere from 6 to 24 months, depending on the type and brand of filler used. Fillers are not permanent, so touch-up treatments will be required to maintain your results.

Facial Filler FAQ
How much do fillers cost?
Facial fillers generally cost anywhere from around $600 to $1,000, depending on the type and brand of filler and the size and number of treatment areas. The cost can also vary by location, the skill and expertise of your injector and other factors.
How long will my facial filler treatment take?
Most fillers take around 15 to 30 minutes to administer, and there is no downtime afterward.
Do injectable fillers hurt?
Most people say that fillers are a relatively comfortable procedure. We use products that contain a numbing agent to maximize your comfort, as well as topical numbing creams and ice.
How do I choose the best facial filler provider near me?
Find the right filler provider near you by asking friends and family for recommendations in your area and doing research online. Verify the credentials of each provider you are considering, look at before and after facial filler photos and read online reviews to narrow your search. Finally, schedule a consultation with your top one or two providers to discuss your specific needs and goals and make your final decision.
What is the best facial filler?
The best type of facial filler for you will depend on your skincare needs and goals and personal preferences. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane are generally great choices for people who have never had fillers before. These fillers can be dissolved with a special enzyme if you do not like the results for any reason. Other types of filler cannot be dissolved and will gradually wear away over time.
While Sculptra cannot be dissolved, it typically offers longer-lasting results than other filler types and can effectively treat deep lines and creases. During your consultation, one of our skincare experts will listen to your needs and goals and will help you decide which type of facial filler could be best for you.
Can fillers be combined with other cosmetic treatments?
Yes, fillers are often combined with other injectables such as BOTOX/Dysport to achieve more comprehensive anti-aging results. Fillers can also be combined with other cosmetic treatments such as laser/light treatments. However, facials or massages should not be performed at the same time as or shortly after fillers to avoid moving the product to other areas of the face.
Which is best: BOTOX or fillers?
Botulinum toxin injectables such as BOTOX and Dysport are generally best suited to treat lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Fillers are typically best for adding volume to the mid-face area and lips, as well as smoothing away lines and wrinkles near the nose and mouth.
Is there downtime after getting facial fillers?
No, there is no downtime after getting fillers. However, you will be provided with aftercare instructions to follow after your facial filler appointment to maximize results and minimize side effects such as swelling and bruising. For example, you will be asked to avoid taking certain medications or supplements that can worsen bruising, and you should avoid intense exercise immediately after your appointment.
How long does it take to see facial filler results?
Expect to see your final filler result within two weeks after your appointment. It can take this long for swelling and bruising to subside and for the product to “settle” into place. Because of this, we recommend scheduling facial fillers at least two weeks before an important event.
How long do fillers last?
Fillers can last between six months and two years, depending on the type of filler used. To help prolong your facial filler results, avoid sun exposure, wear daily sunscreen, stay hydrated and follow a consistent medical-grade skincare regimen designed for your unique skin type and needs.
