BOTOX® Cosmetic offers a simple and effective solution for smoother skin near your eyes with little to no downtime and recovery, leaving you looking and feeling more refreshed and energized.

What Is BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic is the first in a class of injectable wrinkle treatments called “neuromodulators,” which work by temporarily quieting the muscle contractions that cause wrinkles to form. Over time, the effects of BOTOX wear off, and the muscle returns to its previous state. With repeated injections over time, the appearance of lines and wrinkles can soften, often helping to prevent new static wrinkles on the skin.

Areas of Treatment
While BOTOX is most commonly used to temporarily smooth away lines and wrinkles near the forehead and eyebrow area, it can also be used to treat a variety of other concerns, including:
- Frown lines or “11’s” between eyebrows
- “Crow’s feet” at the corners of your eyes
- Forehead lines
- “Bunny lines” on your nose
- Wrinkles around your lips
- Down-turned mouth
- Dimpled chin or prominent chin crease
- Muscular neck bands
- Relax prominent jaw muscle (TMJ)
- Excessive underarm sweating
Am I a Candidate?
Virtually anyone who is in good overall health and is bothered by the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the forehead, brow and eye area could be a great candidate for BOTOX. This injectable treatment is also FDA-approved for treating several medical conditions, including migraines and excessive underarm sweating.
Our patients see some of the best BOTOX results when they combine this treatment with other nonsurgical anti-aging treatments such as facial fillers to achieve more comprehensive results.
How BOTOX Works
BOTOX consists of a purified protein that temporarily quiets facial muscle contractions in the treated area. These muscle contractions would otherwise cause what are known as dynamic wrinkles to form, which, over time, turn into static or permanent wrinkles. By relaxing these muscles, BOTOX can help to slow or even prevent the formation of these static lines and wrinkles on the skin.

Results
While the immediate effects of BOTOX are often quickly noticeable, it can take around two weeks for your final result to fully develop. We recommend scheduling your appointment at least this far in advance of an important event to ensure optimal results in time. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled near the 10 to 14 day mark after your initial BOTOX treatment to ensure you are happy with your results.
Prior to the two-week mark, you may notice some bruising, redness and swelling in the injected area. These side effects are typically mild and should resolve on their own over the next several days. It is best to avoid vigorously rubbing or massaging the treated area and will need to avoid strenuous exercise for the first few hours after getting BOTOX.
While you should only need one BOTOX treatment session to achieve your best results, the effects of BOTOX gradually fade away over the course of 3 to 6 months. Many people find that BOTOX is easy and convenient to incorporate into their schedules every few months in order to maintain their results.

BOTOX FAQ
How much does BOTOX cost?
The cost of BOTOX widely varies from around $200 to $600 per treatment. BOTOX is measured in units, with the average cost of one unit being $10 to $15. Most treatment areas require an average of 20 to 40 units, although this greatly depends on your unique situation and goals.
———-
How long will my BOTOX treatment take?
Typically, BOTOX takes around 10 to 20 minutes to administer.
———-
How do I find a qualified BOTOX® provider near me?
Always choose a BOTOX provider who has been professionally trained and certified to administer BOTOX. This information should be readily available on the provider’s website, but do not hesitate to inquire further if you are unsure or have questions about the credentials of a potential BOTOX provider.
Here at Sarasota Facial Aesthetic, for example, we have 2 in-house Allergan Aesthetics National Trainers, so you can rest assured you are getting the highest quality BOTOX treatment and results.
———-
What is the best age for BOTOX?
There is no right or wrong age to get BOTOX, though starting BOTOX in your mid-20s or early 30s may help to prevent deeper wrinkles from forming on your face in the future. However, BOTOX is also very common among men and women in their 40s, 50s and beyond as a way to smooth fine lines and deeper creases.
———-
How many BOTOX injections will I get in one appointment?
The number of BOTOX injections you’ll receive during your appointment will depend on the size and number of areas being treated, as well as your specific needs and goals. To treat crow’s feet, for example, your provider may recommend 3 strategically placed BOTOX injections, while 5 injections may be required in order to treat forehead wrinkles.
———-
Does BOTOX hurt?
Most people find that discomfort during BOTOX injections is minimal. At Sarasota Facial Aesthetic, we use a small ice pack to “freeze” the area to be treated before the injection, along with the tiniest needle for maximum comfort.
———-
How do I prepare for my BOTOX appointment?
Your BOTOX provider will give you detailed guidelines about how to prepare for your upcoming appointment. Generally speaking, you will be asked to avoid taking NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and naproxen, as well as other blood-thinning medications and supplements for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Taking arnica prior to getting BOTOX may help to minimize bruising.
———-
Will I see BOTOX results immediately?
You may notice a visible improvement directly after your BOTOX appointment. However, it can take up to 2 weeks to fully enjoy your final BOTOX result. Not only does the product take some time to “settle” into place, but it can also take 1 to 2 weeks for any swelling or bruising to diminish, revealing your finished look.
———-
Is there downtime after BOTOX?
No, there is no formal downtime needed after getting BOTOX, so you can resume your normal daily activities directly after your appointment. However, you will need to avoid strenuous exercise and vigorously rubbing the treated area for the next several hours after getting BOTOX. For the best results, avoid excessive alcohol consumption for the first 24 hours after your appointment, as it can contribute to swelling.
———-
How long does BOTOX last?
BOTOX generally lasts for 3 to 6 months before a touch-up appointment may be required to maintain your same results. However, there is some evidence that regular BOTOX injections, especially those started earlier in life, can have a preventative effect on future wrinkles. So even though the short-term effects of BOTOX may fade away over time, you may be able to enjoy longer-term benefits down the road.
