Cosmetic lasers and injectables are two of the most popular skin treatments we offer, so it’s no wonder many people ask if they should combine them to address several skin issues at once. In fact, one of the most common questions we get when combining treatments is, “Which should come first: lasers or injectables?” The answer is that it depends on the specific lasers and injectables you’re getting.
Do Lasers Dissolve Injectables?
While laser skin treatments do not flat-out dissolve or “melt” injectables, deeper ablative lasers can affect the longevity of injectables, according to a study published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal. However, the same study showed no effects on injectables following non-ablative laser and light treatments or superficial ablative laser treatments.
This means that laser treatments like broadband light (BBL) photofacials, which do not heat the deeper layers of skin, should not affect dermal filler results, even if they are performed afterwards. When formulating a treatment package for you, our skincare professionals will advise about the order of treatments to ensure you are getting the best results from any combination procedure.
How to Pair Lasers and Injectables
In most cases, lasers and injectables can be a perfect pair and can be performed in either order. Lean on the expert opinion of our skincare providers to determine which order makes the most sense for you. Either way, you should wait at least two weeks in between treatments before moving onto the next one, whether you start with lasers or injectables. This will give your skin adequate time to heal after laser treatments or injectables.
We’ve found that many people like the very immediate results they can get with injectable fillers like Juvederm and Restylane. These can be great initial treatments to help you feel boosted and refreshed. From there, treatments that take more time to reveal their results, such as laser rejuvenation or BOTOX, can be added in.
